Safe Surrender

Safe Surrender is a program through which individuals with outstanding warrants for non-violent offenses receive a chance to talk with a lawyer, meet with a judge, and have their cases dismissed or at least receive favorable consideration from law enforcement and court officials on site.

Galilee Baptist Church in Nashville hosted the event on December 10th and 11th, 2021. Local pastors widely praised the program which  resulted in almost 200 people receiving a fresh start for the holidays.

“This [was] an opportunity for folks to turn themselves in because they missed court primarily, in a way where they can get back into the justice system, have their case reviewed on the spot,” DA Funk stated told WKRN Channel2.

Safe Surrender is a collaborative effort between members of the Nashville pastoral community, Metro Nashville Police Department, Office of the District Attorney Glenn Funk, the Public Defender’s office, the Sheriff’s Department, Board of Probation and Parole, and the Courts.
